The first State House is built in Charleston.
The second State House is built in South Carolina and the first meeting of the legislature is held.
The State House is destroyed by fire during the Civil War by General William T. Sherman on February 17.
The third State House is completed after nearly 50 years of being under construction. This State House is fireproof by design.
The State House finishes renovations to meet current safety standards as well as handicap accessibility and protection from earthquakes.
