STATE COLOR
INDIGO
The color Indigo Blue was designated as the official Color of the State by Act Number 200 of 2008. A South Carolina third grader made a request to her State Senator to introduce a bill naming indigo blue as the State Color based on the following: it was the color worn by Colonel Moultrie and his soldiers during the Revolutionary War; it is the background color of the State Flag; and, indigo crops played an important role in the industrial development of South Carolina.
STATE TAPESTRY
"FROM THE MOUNTAINS TO THE SEA"
"From the Mountains to the Sea" was designated as the official State Tapestry by Act Number 354 of 2000. The Tapestry was made from 100% cotton and represents all areas of the State. It is displayed at the South Carolina Cotton Museum in Bishopville, South Carolina.
STATE TARTAN
CAROLINA TARTAN
The Carolina Tartan was designated as the official State Tartan by Act Number 303 of 2002. The Carolina Tartan was created to honor the Scottish heritage of both South and North Carolina. The design is a variation of tartan associated with King Charles II, who made the land grant in 1663, which created the Carolinas.
